The Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI) Educational Foundation has announced the establishment of the Jo & John Birchfield Sr Educational Scholarship, commemorating over 30 years of successful fundraising through the annual Golf Scramble and Crabfeast events.
The scholarship honors the early vision and commitment of Jo and John Birchfield Sr, whose dedication helped launch what would become one of the foundation’s most successful fundraising initiatives.
Under the leadership of Bob Jacobs while at Birchfield Jacobs Foodsystems, and now at Culinary Advisors, these annual events have raised more than $570,000 over three decades, providing crucial support for educational programs and professional development within the foodservice consulting industry.
“What started as a simple idea to bring the industry together that has grown into something truly remarkable,” said Bob Jacobs, Design Principal at Culinary Advisors. “The Golf Scramble and Crabfeast have not only raised significant funds for education but have created lasting relationships throughout our industry. We’re deeply grateful to have been part of this journey, watching it grow and impact so many lives through educational opportunities.”
The Foundation extends special thanks to the 61 sponsors of last year’s event. For the complete list of participating sponsors click here.
Looking ahead, the tradition continues with the upcoming Golf Scramble and Crabfeast scheduled for August 6, 2025, on Kent Island, MD. This event will mark the first year of fundraising supporting the newly named Jo & John Birchfield Sr. Educational Scholarship program.
“The establishment of this named scholarship ensures that Jo and John Birchfield Sr’s commitment to education and professional development in our industry will continue to inspire future generations,” said Kathleen Held, CPSM, president of the FCSI Educational Foundation and CEO of Cini-Little. “We’re honored to recognize their legacy as well as Bob Jacobs’ tremendous contribution to our foundation’s mission.”
