The 2018 list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, announced in Macau this week, included eight new entries from the region, while Gaggan Anand’s Bangkok restaurant Gaggan secured the top spot for the fourth year running.
Big in Japan
Among countries Japan came out on top with a total of 11 restaurants included on the list; Osaka’s La Cime won the highest new entry award, coming in at 17. Hong Kong and Thailand each had nine included.
Among the individual awards was Yoshihiro Narisawa who won the Chef’s Choice Award; Nicolas Lambert from Caprice, Hong Kong was named Best Pastry Chef, Bee Santogun of Paste in Bangkok ws recognised as Asia’s Best Female Chef and Andre Chiang received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Ultraviolet by Paul Paired in Shanghai won the Art of Hospitality Award while the One To Watch Award went to Toyo Eatery in Manila and L’Effervescence in Tokyo took home the Sustainable Restaurant Award, which was introduced for the first in Asia this year.
Culinary innovation
